Prof Gavin Gillmore

Gavin Gillmore is a Doctor of Geology (University College, London) and is Emeritus Professor of Research at Bath Spa University. Previously he was Professor of Environmental Geoscience at Kingston University, where he was also Head of the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, holds Chartered Geologist status, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Prof Gillmore has been a Director of the Radon Council for over 20 years and is the current Chairman.

He has written numerous papers concerning radon and related environmental health matters, a number of which can be found on the Radon Council web site as well as being a major contributor to and co-editor of The Radon Manual. His research interests are varied and include radon, geology, caves and abandoned mines, and associated ecotoxicology. He has undertaken projects on indoor radon in mines, schools, homes and hospitals in the UK, Poland, Australia and Iran.

Professor Gillmore has refereed for many academic journals on radon issues, examples are the Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, Environment International, Radiation Measurements, Radiation Protection Dosimetry and the Science of the Total Environment. He is guest editor on radon issues for the international journal Natural Hazards and Earth System Science and was the co-ordinator of the UNESCO International Geoscience Programme Project 571 “Radon, Health and Natural Hazards”.
