The Environmental Protection Group Ltd (EPG) is an independent geoenvironmental consultancy with extensive experience in radon investigation, risk assessment, mitigation design and verification across a wide range of development types.

EPG undertakes radon soil gas testing in accordance with recognised international standards (ISO 11665) applying a rigorous, science-led approach to data collection, interpretation and reporting. Our work is underpinned by strong geoscientific expertise, with staff affiliations to the Geological Society, including Chartered Geologists with detailed understanding of radon occurrence, generation and migration within soils and rocks. EPG previously provided training on radon geohazards on behalf of the Geological Society.

We provide robust radon risk assessments integrating radon data from maps and testing, with geological, hydrogeological and ground gas building ingress and ventilation models. EPG staff include members of the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA), with individuals holding ASoBRA accreditation, ensuring proportionate, defensible risk assessment for radon and other ground gases. EPG also has members in the SoBRA radon working group.

A core strength of EPG is experience in the delivery of site-specific radon mitigation designs. We do not rely on standardised solutions. Instead, we develop detailed mitigation strategies. We can do this effectively for any type of new build development, including basements. We also have in-depth knowledge of retrofit solutions – EPG authored CIRIA guidance C795 on retrofitting gas protection measures. Our designs are informed by a deep understanding of gas flow mechanisms, building physics and constructability and will also always combine any other ground gas or structural waterproofing protection requirements. Our team includes CSSW qualified staff, supporting high-quality protection detailing and design.

EPG also has strong capability in the verification of radon mitigation systems, with staff members holding CL:AIRE SGPV qualifications. We provide inspection, and testing at the point of installation to provide confidence systems are installed correctly and will perform as intended.

EPG actively contributes to advancing best practice, particularly with respect to radon risk assessment in the UK. Our work reflects current science and supports safe, sustainable development.

Course booking Terms and Conditions

  1. All course fees are payable in full at time of reservation unless agreed otherwise.
  2. A refund of 60% of the amount paid will be made in the event of receipt of written cancellation at least FOUR weeks prior to the date of the course. No refund can be made on cancellation thereafter.
  3. If a candidate cannot attend the course on the agreed date, the candidate may be able to attend the next identical course. If they miss this next identical course, they cannot attend another without the payment of course fees. 
  4. Substitution of delegates (from the same company/firm) can be made at any time prior to the start of the course.
  5. In the event that a course is oversubscribed, The Radon Council reserves the right to place candidates on the course as the course fee is paid. When the course is full, the remaining candidates will be moved to the next suitable course. 
  6. All course documentation is provided solely for the private training and study purposes of individual delegates. Copyright is reserved on all material prepared and provided by The Radon Council.
  7. The Radon Council reserves the right to make any alterations to course arrangements necessitated by circumstances beyond its control.
